Nova's Chill Vibes Game Jam 5 Entry
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
For this year's jam, I wanted to try doing something single-player again (for the last couple years, I made multiplayer games). I've had an idea for a MiniMMO project for a long while, so I decided to use this jam as practice for figuring out the look and feel that I want.
For some reason, I was incredibly inspired to work on this game... but offline.
I wanted to focus and really explore and learn a bunch of things about making games in Godot. And hopefully, I can share some of what I've learned in upcoming game dev streams!
The project was a bit over-ambitious, and I had plans and systems in place for different equipment, items, classes, enemy behavior, skills, etc.
None of this is wasted effort though! I'll probably re-use a bunch of the code and maybe even work on this game more in the future!
The story and setting of the game was supposed to be: exploring a "dead" MMORPG where things have started to get a bit glitchy or corrupted. And I think you can kinda feel it, but I wasn't really explicit about it anywhere.
Also, I wasn't able to use every piece of art like I was in previous jams, but I at least used some art from everyone. Seriously though, thank you to everyone who submitted assets to the Chill Vibes Art Jam! 💖
The Game:
Explore game levels and try to find their exit teleporters. Once you teleport out of a level, trees that were blocking your path in the overworld map will be cleared, allowing you to find more levels. Once you reach the final exit in the final level, a teleporter will appear nearby in the overworld map to take you to the end credits!
The Controls:
| Keyboard/Mouse | Controller | Action |
| WASD | Left Stick | moves |
| E | Left Action | action button |
| Mouse Movement | Right Stick | controls camera |
| Space | Bottom Action | jump |
| Left Mouse | Left Shoulder | left attack |
| Right Mouse | Right Shoulder | right attack |
| Escape / Tab | Start Button | toggle menu |
| Ctrl+Q | quits |
Notes:
If you're running into graphics issues with the game, please try the "compatibility" version. It won't look quite as good, but it should hopefully fix the graphics issues you might be having!
